Welcome to SEVEN.Every week (time permitting) our newspaper has the luxury of having an interview with a photographer particular deviantart. Thanks to the seven questions we will know better the person behind the beautiful photos of the photo gallery.
This week I have the honor to present
FioReLLo: Monika KritiKou.
Interview by
Antonio Maria Fantetti.
1- Please, introduce yourself:My name is Monika and I was born in Athens, Greece. I spent some of my years in Italy and in the UK and I currently live in Athens with my fiancé. Im a tea addict and I enjoy long walks by the sea
2- How did you get interested in photography? It was more the mystery of the dark room that drawn me to photography. A year after I finished school I had the chance to have access to a dark room
that was it
I found out that in a smelly little room filled with chemicals and a red light, there was everything I could ask for
3- Which artist/photographer inspired your art?One of the Masters in photography that always fascinates me is Joseph Kudelka. But there are also other artists that inspire me like Salvador Dalí, Auguste Rodin or Damien Hirst. I also found poetry very intriguing and even if it seems irrelevant to photography, imho its not
Many poets have written about light and darkness
and photography (based on the Greek words Φως (Phos = Light) and Γραφή (Graphe = Writing/Drawing)) does exactly that: its drawing the light
4- What does photography mean to you and wich is ur favourite photo that u have in deviantart and why it is ur favouriteWell
photography is for me an expression of deeper feelings and hidden thoughts
a way of seeing life through different kind of filters
I believe I dream in black and white is one of my personal favorites
because it shows that reality can be a dream, it can be an illusion
5- Do you work as a professional photographer or do you pursue the art as a hobby? It started as a hobby, but my everyday life as a marketeer did not allow me to spend as much time as I wish with my camera
After several years I realized that in order to have a balance I should put photography more into my life, and finally took the decision to pursue a career as a professional photographer
so now I shoot people for a living
.

6- What do you do in your life besides photography?I enjoy my yoga classes and I am an illustrator wannabe
7- Are you planning any exhibitions of your works in near future? What future plans do you have?My latest exhibition just finished and Im now participating to a Christmas Bazaar downtown Athens
In a few days, some of my works will be in an exhibition at Piraeus and at the beginning of 2010 I will participate at an exhibition at Technopolis in Athens.
Future plans
hard question
the only thing I can say is that I have a lot of dreams

I was born not knowing and have had only a little time to change that here and there.
